Sa position strat\u00e9gique entre la Haute Alsace et la Lorraine lui a valu d&rsquo;\u00eatre occup\u00e9e par des militaires d\u00e8s l&rsquo;\u00e9poque romaine, pour devenir ville imp\u00e9riale du Saint Empire en 1293.<br \/>\nAu cours des si\u00e8cles, la ville fut tant\u00f4t prosp\u00e8re tant\u00f4t ruin\u00e9e ou d\u00e9truite (guerre de 30 ans et seconde guerre mondiale)<br \/>\nAujourd\u2019hui, elle est prosp\u00e8re gr\u00e2ce au vignoble et au tourisme.<\/p>\n<p>Une promenade dans ses ruelles pav\u00e9es permet de d\u00e9couvrir de nombreuses demeures \u00e0 colombages, un beau centre historique, un ch\u00e2teau imp\u00e9rial en ruine dominant la ville, un h\u00f4tel de ville construit dans le style de la Renaissance rh\u00e9nane et surtout une \u00e9glise romane qui abrite une profusion d&rsquo;\u0153uvres d&rsquo;art comme un superbe retable en bois sculpt\u00e9, un Christ immense et tragique sur la croix ainsi qu&rsquo;un tr\u00e8s beau style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>L\u2019H\u00f4tel de ville<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\u00c9rig\u00e9 en pierre dans le style de la Renaissance rh\u00e9nane en 1521, il pr\u00e9sente une belle fa\u00e7ade avec un oriel joliment ouvrag\u00e9 \u00e0 deux \u00e9tages. Une tour compl\u00e8te l&rsquo;\u00e9difice.<br \/>\nDans le petit passage situ\u00e9 \u00e0 droite amenant \u00e0 la cour int\u00e9rieure se trouve un remarquable puits renaissance, unique en Alsace, orn\u00e9 de dauphins.<br \/>\nLa cour int\u00e9rieure est un lieu de tranquillit\u00e9 dont un des murs est d\u00e9cor\u00e9 d\u2019une fresque de 1993 \u00e9voquant le Moyen-\u00e2ge.<\/p>\n<p><span poss\u00e9dait son ch\u00e2teau imp\u00e9rial. Sa fonction \u00e9tait li\u00e9e au guet et \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense de la ville.<\/p>\n<p>Elle fut h\u00e9las c\u00e9l\u00e8bre lors de la guerre 39-45: une vingtaine de r\u00e9fractaires au r\u00e9gime hitl\u00e9rien y furent incarc\u00e9r\u00e9s en attendant leur tragique destin.<\/p>\n<p>Au sommet, on peut y voir une cigogne dans son magnifique nid.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:
